Astrocartography

Your planets on the world map

At the moment of your birth, somewhere on Earth the Sun was just rising, the Moon stood at the zenith, Venus was sinking below the horizon. Astrocartography draws these places as lines around the globe: four per planet, 40 in all. Places on a line carry that planet's theme especially clearly.

Date of birth

The lines need your time of birth, ideally from your birth certificate.

1 · Moment of birth

From date, time and place we calculate the sidereal time and the sky position of all ten planets with real ephemerides.

2 · 40 lines

For each planet, the places where it was just rising, culminating, setting or at its lowest point: AC, MC, DC, IC.

3 · Check places

Tap the map or search for a city: you see which lines run nearby and what they mean.

What the four lines mean

AC line · Rising
Here the planet was just rising in the east. Theme: presence, body, a personal fresh start.
MC line · Zenith
Here the planet stood due south, at the highest point of its path. Theme: career, visibility, your role in public.
DC line · Setting
Here the planet was just setting in the west. Theme: encounter, partnership, the other person.
IC line · Nadir
Here the planet stood directly below the horizon, at its lowest point. Theme: home, roots, family, inner life.

The method goes back to the American astrologer Jim Lewis, who made it known in the 1970s under the name Astro*Carto*Graphy. It changes nothing about your birth chart: the map only shows where on Earth the angles of your chart would have fallen differently. Moving onto a line doesn't turn anyone into a different person; some themes just get louder there.

Also included are parans: when two planets stand on an angle each at the same moment, their lines cross, and the combination applies to the whole circle of latitude through the crossing point. The map shows the crossings as small diamonds; checking a place lists the nearby parans with their distance in latitude.

Astrocartography serves self-reflection and is no travel or relocation advice. Without a birth time the lines can't be calculated. How we calculate is explained in the methodology.
