Gemini and Virgo
Air meets earth · Two Mercury signs
Gemini and Virgo share Mercury as their ruler: both think a lot, both like to talk – Gemini in ideas, Virgo in details. Two minds that understand each other and still regularly wear themselves out on each other.
First encounter
Two children of Mercury recognise each other by the pace of their thinking. Virgo values Gemini's agility, Gemini values Virgo's precision. The first encounter is a conversation that quickly goes deep – and in which Virgo at some point asks whether Gemini really means it. Both are curious about the other, both stay cautious: Gemini because of the commitment, Virgo because of the mess.
What connects you
Both love knowledge, language and learning. They can talk, plan, sort and spark ideas in each other for hours. Gemini gives Virgo breadth and humour, Virgo gives Gemini structure and staying power. Both are mutable and therefore adaptable – they rarely get stuck on each other for long. Working together they are strong: Gemini drafts, Virgo checks, and the result is better than what either would have done alone.
Where it rubs
Virgo wants it right, Gemini wants it interesting. Virgo experiences Gemini as superficial and unreliable, Gemini experiences Virgo as petty and critical. Mercury against Mercury also means: both can wound with words, and both are nervously disposed – together that can tip into brooding and talking things to death. Feelings get short shrift with both, because they would rather analyse. The translation: Virgo praises before correcting; Gemini pauses before jumping on – and both occasionally ask how it feels instead of what it means.
Frequently asked questions
Are Gemini and Virgo compatible?
Intellectually they are very close, in their handling of order and commitment different. Whether the feelings come along is shown by the Moon and Venus in both charts.
Why do Gemini and Virgo get on so well in conversation?
Both are ruled by Mercury, the planet of thinking and speaking. Gemini uses it for collecting, Virgo for ordering – one mind, two tools.
