Sagittarius and Capricorn
Fire meets earth · Horizon and wall
Sagittarius believes in what is possible, Capricorn in what is feasible. These neighbouring signs complement each other in vision and realisation – and annoy each other with recklessness and heaviness. An instructive, unequal combination.
First encounter
Sagittarius talks about grand plans, Capricorn asks about the budget – and each finds the other astonishing. Capricorn values the drive and confidence of Sagittarius, which Capricorn itself lacks; Sagittarius values the calm and substance of Capricorn, which keep Sagittarius grounded. The first encounter is respectful and a little foreign. It takes a while before Capricorn laughs and Sagittarius falls quiet – but both happen.
What unites them
Both are honest, purposeful and have a sense of the big picture – Sagittarius in the horizon, Capricorn in the work. Sagittarius gives Capricorn confidence, humour and permission to believe in the improbable; Capricorn gives Sagittarius structure, stamina and the ability to see visions through. Working together they are a strong duo: Sagittarius sees where to go, Capricorn knows how. Both are loyal once they have made up their minds.
Where it rubs
Capricorn finds Sagittarius reckless, unreliable and boastful; Sagittarius finds Capricorn ponderous, pessimistic and humourless. Sagittarius needs freedom, Capricorn needs commitment – and each regards the other's need as a flaw. Capricorn dampens, Sagittarius exaggerates; Capricorn brakes, Sagittarius pushes. The translation: Sagittarius keeps promises and appointments, Capricorn allows enthusiasm without immediately checking it – and both recognise that vision and plan need each other.
Frequently asked questions
Are Sagittarius and Capricorn a good match?
They complement each other in vision and execution, but need patience with each other to do so. Whether their needs meet is shown by the Moon, Jupiter and Saturn in both charts.
What does Sagittarius learn from Capricorn?
That goals are reached by sticking with them. Capricorn learns from Sagittarius that the journey is allowed to be fun – and that some things succeed precisely because nobody calculated them through to the end.
